Join most recent Pole Drama and Overall Winner of Pro-Division of Pole Theatre Canada! - Elspeth Cudmore. Elspeth (she/they) is a Toronto-based performance artist and instructor specializing in scintillating aerial and pole creations. Driven by a deep desire to artistically fling themself around in the air as much as possible, Elspeth has developed a distinct style - a juxtaposition of melting movement and striking shapework, tied together with an overarching disposition for drama. Alongside performing, Elspeth has taught across Canada over the past 6 years and is a passionate and technique-driven instructor. She is incredibly excited to be able to share her love of pole with PoleCoven! All movement comes from exploration, and every pole skill you’ve ever learned has come from someone going “hey, I wonder what will happen if I ...”. In this workshop, we’ll take a dive into prompt-based movement to add new and exciting discoveries to our pole lexicon! Can you take an arm off here? Can you use your foot there? Do you know where this trick can go next? This workshop takes an exploratory approach to learning to guide students to new entries, exits and shapes from a variety of fundamental pole skills. This workshop is guided by cues and examples, and is suitable for anyone confident in their climbs, pole sits and knee holds (e.g. genie or gemini). We will be working both on the ground and in the air. The main requirements are curiosity and a willingness to try something... a little out there!
